The 1st Annual Our Heroes’ Memorial Golf Tournament took place on April 13, 2009 at the Hunter’s Green Country Club in New Tampa.  We utilized a 4 Man Scramble format with a 0900 hour tee off on their 18 hole, Tom Fazio designed, championship golf course.  Breakfast was courtesy of Panera Bread and lunch was catered by none other than Lee Roy Selmon’s.  Starbucks served coffee to everyone, Pepin Distributors helped supply adult beverages and the Thompson Cigar Company made sure all players had cigars.  The tournament turned out to be a first class experience that sold out days before the event with a total of 136 players.

There were 3 flights (Open, LEO and PBA) played with trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each flight.  Thanks to Charlie Brown and Brown’s Trophies for a superior product.

A total of $20,000 was raised and, after expenses, we netted $5,000.  As promised, half of the proceeds went to the Tampa Police Honor Guard.  The remaining $2,500 was used to help establish the Tampa Police Benevolent Association Charity Fund.

We’d like to thank all of our sponsors for their support and, in turn, would like to encourage you to support our sponsors.  Because of them we had more door/raffle prizes than players to give away.  In addition, Best Buy of Wesley Chapel donated a 42” LG LCD HDTV worth $899 as the grand prize.  In polling our players we learned that the #1 attraction at the tournament was the presence of Lee Roy Selmon’s and their food.  The #2 most popular draw was the fact that our tournament was hosted on the greens of the Hunter’s Green Country Club.

If you played in this tournament and liked it, just wait until next year.  The bar has been raised and we intend to keep doing that every year.  If you want to play in the next one, please sign up early, as we expect another sell out!
