Donations Sought to Support Tampa Police Officer Shot Near Busch Gardens

TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa Police Benevolent Association is seeking community assistance after a Tampa police officer was shot Wednesday morning near Busch Gardens, prompting a call for donations to aid the injured officer and support the family.

The shooting occurred in the area of 30th Street and Annie Street, close to the employee entrance of Busch Gardens. The officer underwent treatment and is in stable condition at the hospital, according to the Tampa Police Department. The suspect, an adult male, reportedly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The scene has been secured, and there is no ongoing threat to the public, officials said.

“Our officers put their lives on the line every day to protect the community, and this brave officer was doing just that when this tragic event occurred,” said Brandon Barclay, president of the Tampa PBA. “We’re now asking the public to rally around this officer and provide support for the officer and family during this difficult time.”

“Regardless of what happened today, our officers remain committed to keeping Tampa safe,” Barclay said. “We have an exceptional police force here in Tampa, dedicated to public safety. As they protect us, we hope supporters in Tampa and elsewhere will help ease this officer’s burden.”

All funds raised will go directly to the officer.
